Before College Do List

DO:

*Your research!!

*Pick a college that is the best fit for you (financially, mentally & academically)!  Do a pro and con list if need be!

*Apply for all scholarships at your college and external scholarships! There are many out there!

*Be realistic but do not hold yourself back from applying to “reach” schools!

*Start applying early! Have your teachers review your application and give them optimal time to write your recommendations!

*Manage your time! Do not apply last minute!

*Study for SATs and ACTs! Those numbers make a difference for acceptances and scholarships!

*Use Common Application when possible! (It is super helpful!)

*Be your best advocate! Ask for an interview! Give them a holistic review of the incredible students you are! Send emails! Express interest!

*Understand what contributions your family can make (if any) and understand how a loan will affect you! Do your research! Talk to your families!

*Do not accept work study loans if you do not plan to work! (MANY kids do this!) Be realistic!

*Visit schools! Do overnight visits! Do meet faculty! Talk to students! While you visit the school, visit the surrounding area!

*Know that there is NO shame being undecided or unsure of your selected major!

*Know that going far away may sound exciting but look at the situation from many perspectives! You can still feel independent at a college within your state or close to home!

*Be open minded!

Message me if I missed something! I know I made mistakes during the process! I hope this helps! Message me if you need help!

we should make fun of americans more. why dont their shops include tax in the price tag. like how much does this item cost? its a surprise :)

Honestly, tea. I’ve lived here my whole life and I have never once known what my total is gonna be at the register. Total fucking mystery.

im an ex-american living in new zealand for the past two years and it still never fails to blow my mind that i can take a $2 coin, walk up to a counter with two $1 items, and perform the expected transaction

this callout is completely deserved

Close your eyes and listen

I wish this video was 6 hours long

this is literally my favorite video ive ever seen on tumblr

…it’s hypnotic…

ALSO- I’m glad this is my second most successful tumblr post. A little background about this video: I took it the day there was the nuclear missile threat while I was on Oahu. That morning, I thought it was my last day on earth and I was about to meet my impending death by nuclear missile. After the island was notified that the alert was actually false (mind you it also took them THIRTY-EIGHT minutes to tell us it was fake) my friends and I drove to Costco, bought a bunch of snacks and fruits, and spent the entire day at this beach. We didn’t talk much, as the concept of life and death was all across our minds. I swam in the water during the sunset, and had just gotten out to record the last light rays that remained. This video reminds me how precious life is and how I will always remember that feeling

Idilia Dubb:  “The diary documents her starvation and failed attempts to signal for help”

Idilia Dubb was a Scottish teenager who became trapped in Lahneck Castle while on holiday in Germany in the 1800s, after an old staircase she had climbed collapsed behind her. She wasn’t found at the time, but eventually her diary and bones were discovered. The diary documents her starvation and failed attempts to signal for help. Read more here.
